Thanks to technology, Tockwith Players have given a voice to young people by purchasing eight headset microphones with grants from North Yorkshire councillors Andy Paraskos and Cllr Arnold Warneken.
Each councillor has a budget of £10,000 a year to support community-led activities. The Tockwith Players received £1,000 from the councillors to add to almost £400 raised by the group.
The chair of Tockwith Players, Sue Corbett, expressed the desire to give everyone a chance, especially the children. She mentioned that they had many children singing solo in the recent pantomime and that seeing them perform with the microphones was amazing.
Cllr Paraskos praised the Players for their long-standing role in village life, bringing people together and promoting social inclusion and wellbeing. He believes that the addition of the microphones will help them fulfill that role even better in the future.
The Players have upcoming events including a murder mystery in February, a play in April, and a “live at the village hall” event in July.
