Shake a Leg! The Return of the Strictly St Leonards Dance Contest

Time to dust down your glad rags…

Just one more couple needed for this year’s Strictly St Leonard’s dance competition.

Over six weeks, couples will have six dance lessons covering tango, jive, and Viennese Waltz.

The grand finale will take place on March 23 at Tadcaster’s Riley Smith Hall.

“Strictly St Leonard’s was scary, exhilarating, terrifying but the most rewarding experience ever!” one former competitor said.

“I would recommend this experience to anyone who wants to push themselves, learn a new skill or raise money for a brilliant charity.”

Contestants don’t need any previous dance experience.

“Your dance teacher Chris will teach you the routines from scratch,” a St Leonard’s spokesperson said.

Contestants don’t need a dance partner. Most enter with a colleague, family member or friend.

“But if you are interested and don’t have a partner, we may be able to match you up,” the spokesperson said.

Contestants need to pay a £25 entrance fee each and raise a minimum of £500 in sponsorship for St Leonard’s Hospice.

The six dance lessons will be given on Sunday afternoons from February 11 to March 17.

Dance lessons will be recorded for contestants who can’t make them all – or an extra private lesson can be arranged for a fee.

Most contestants will source their own dance costumes. “We also have some outfits you can buy for a small donation,” the spokesperson said.
