Rachel Coates Makes History as the First Female Director of the Great Yorkshire Show

Shipley native Rachel Coates is set to succeed Charles Mills as show director following the 165th rendition of the show, which concludes on July 12.

Coates, a dairy farmer, expressed her honor in taking over from Mills, who has held the position since 2016. She aims to attract younger generations to the show to ensure its continued success.

Former show director Mills expressed confidence in Coates, stating that he couldn’t think of a better candidate to take over the role.

Allister Nixon, CEO of Yorkshire Agricultural Society, congratulated Coates on her appointment, emphasizing her success in a rigorous selection process.

In addition to her dairy farming duties, Coates is actively involved in the Yorkshire Agricultural Society’s women in farming network and volunteers at the society‚Äôs countryside days for schoolchildren at the Great Yorkshire Showground.
