New Study Reveals Optimal Dunking Time for Biscuits

Dr Helen Pilcher, with a PhD in stem cell biology, recently investigated the best time to dunk biscuits into hot drinks. She found that Rich Tea, Hobnobs, and Digestives should only be submerged for less than a second. The study also revealed that the average biscuit should absorb 20% of its original weight in liquid for the best dunk experience. Milk Chocolate Digestives and Hobnobs should be dunked for just over three seconds, while Penguin bars should remain in the hot drink for six and a half seconds. Fruit Shortcakes and Ginger Nuts reach the dunking danger zone in five and seven seconds respectively. McVitie’s ‘chief dunking officer’ discovered that Chocolate Caramel Digestive can withstand 40 seconds of plunging time before fully crumbling. The study also revealed that Digestives are the favorite biscuits to dunk in the UK.Tea, coffee, and hot chocolate are the most popular beverages to dunk in. Over half of those polled report dunking their biscuits because they like the flavor, and 50% like the change in texture. The survey found that Generation X dunks the most biscuits, and James King from McVitie’s UK & Ireland stated that they have appointed a chief dunking officer to help people achieve the perfect dunk every time.
