Matt, a resident of York, is set to take over as the new managing director of Northern in the spring, succeeding Tricia Williams. He currently serves as a route director at Network Rail and has an extensive background in the UK railway system.
After graduating from Aberystwyth University, Matt joined Network Rail as a management trainee and has since held various roles within the organization. He also has experience working with railways in the Middle East.
Tricia Williams, the incoming managing director of Northern, spoke highly of Matt’s knowledge of the UK rail network and his dedication to improving the colleague experience within the industry.
As the new chief operating officer of Northern, Matt will be responsible for leading all service and engineering functions in the North of England, with a focus on providing a stable and reliable service for customers.

Northern operates 2,500 services a day to over 500 stations across the North of England, making it the second largest train operator in the UK.
