Masked attacker brandishes knife and intimidates employees in Gate Helmsley, just outside of York

North Yorkshire Police report an armed robbery at BATA, Gate Helmsley. The suspect, described as a young man wearing all black and a black balaclava, threatened staff with a ten-inch knife and demanded money and e-cigarette vapes from the till. However, the staff refused to comply, and the suspect left empty-handed. The incident occurred at 6.46pm on Sunday, January 7, and the police have launched a full investigation, including reviewing CCTV footage and conducting door-to-door enquiries. They are asking the public for any information that could help identify the suspect, who is believed to be no older than 20. Anyone who was driving past the petrol station between 6.40pm and 6.50pm is urged to contact North Yorkshire Police with any relevant information.
