KUDA nightclub in York owners seek administration as a solution

However, a REKOM UK spokesperson says it’s too early to determine the impact on KUDA in Clifford Street and the company’s overall operations. KUDA will continue to operate as usual for the time being.

REKOM UK’s chair, Peter Marks, explains that the late-night sector has faced challenges due to the cost-of-living and cost-of-doing-business crises. The government’s Autumn 2023 Statement resulted in savings on rates but increased wage costs, leading to the need for restructuring.

Marks also highlights the success of some club and bar businesses under REKOM UK, such as Heidi’s Bier Bar and Proud Mary, and ensures efforts to find new owners for venues that may not continue as part of the group.

KUDA nightclub has experienced instability, closing during the pandemic and announcing permanent closure in December 2020. However, Rekom UK secured a 10-year lease in 2021, ensuring the nightclub’s long-term future.

The venue, formerly known as Gallery nightclub, underwent a £750,000 rebranding as KUDA in 2012. It was previously owned by Deltic during the pandemic before being acquired by Rekom UK.
