As the year draws to a close, some of the celebrities who died in the last 12 months are:

January

Jeff Beck, a Grammy-winning guitarist, known for his work with the Yardbirds and the Jeff Beck Group, died on January 10 at the age of 78 after contracting bacterial meningitis.

Lisa Marie Presley, singer and daughter of Elvis Presley, died on January 12 at the age of 54 of complications from bariatric surgery (a weight loss procedure).

February

Burt Bacharach, a Grammy and Oscar-winning songwriter and musician, died of natural causes on February 8 at the age of 94.

Lance Reddick, a US actor best known for starring in The Wire and the John Wick franchise alongside Keanu Reeves, died from natural causes on March 17 at the age of 60.

Paul O’Grady, a British comedian and TV presenter, died “unexpectedly but peacefully” at the age of 67 on March 28.

April

Paul Cattermole, a founding member of the 1990s pop group S Club 7, died of natural causes on April 6 at the age of 46.

Barry Humphries, an Australian stage and screen veteran, died on April 22 at the age of 89.

Len Goodman, a dancer and choreographer who acted as head judge on the BBC’s Strictly Come Dancing and the US equivalent Dancing With The Stars, died from bone cancer on April 22 at the age of 78.

Jerry Springer, a US broadcaster and politician best remembered for hosting The Jerry Springer Show, died at the age of 79 on April 27.

Jock Zonfrillo, a Glasgow-born chef, died at the age of 46 on April 30.

May

Rolf Harris, a disgraced entertainer convicted of a string of indecent assaults, died on May 10 at the age of 93.

Andy Rourke, The Smiths’ bassist, died on May 19 after a lengthy illness with pancreatic cancer at the age of 59.

Sir Martin Amis, a British literary giant, died from cancer at the age of 73 on May 19.

Tina Turner, a US singer, died at the age of 83 on May 24.

June

Julian Sands, best known for his role in the 1985 romantic period drama A Room With A View, died at the age of 65.

Glenda Jackson, a two-time Oscar winner who also won two Emmy Awards and a Tony, died on June 15 at the age of 87.

July

Sinead O’Connor, an Irish singer-songwriter, died on July 26 at the age of 56.

Tony Bennett, an American crooner and jazz singer, died at the age of 96 on July 21.

Paul Reubens, best known for his on-screen character Pee-wee Herman, died at the age of 70 on July 30.

August

Ron Cephas Jones, a star of This Is Us, died at the age of 66 on August 19.

September

Sir Michael Gambon, a Dublin-born star of stage and screen, died on September 27 at the age of 82.

October

Matthew Perry, a star of Friends, died on October 28 at the age of 54.

November

Shane MacGowan, a star of The Pogues, died on November 30 at the age of 65.

December

Andre Braugher, a two-time Emmy winning actor, died from lung cancer at the age of 61 on December 11.
