Flooding Persists: Rowntree Park in York Remains Shut to Visitors

Rowntree Park in South Bank has been closed due to flooding from the nearby River Ouse, as reported by The Press last week.

The Friends of Rowntree Park announced on social media that the park will remain closed for some time as water levels are still high and the park does not fully drain without the help of the council and manual pumps.

Despite the closure, the volunteers have been working on flood resilient planting and embracing the park’s flood plain instead of fighting against it. They also encouraged people to support their efforts by becoming a ‘friend of Rowntree Park’ with memberships starting at just £5 a year.

The York Explore cafe is still open daily from 9am to 4pm with access from Richardson Street.
