Our Lady Queen of Martyrs RC Primary School in Hamilton Drive received a donation of £5,000 from housebuilder Persimmon, thanks to a successful funding application by the school’s Parents, Teachers and Friends Association (PTFA).
Head teacher Emma Barrs expressed gratitude for the donation and explained the school’s focus on creating an effective space for worship, oracy, and performing arts in the school hall for the benefit of the entire school community.
Pupils, parents from the PTFA, and the head teacher gathered at the school’s Christmas fair to formally receive the cheque. The funds will be used to replace the existing school hall sound system, which currently limits the school’s ability to conduct larger group classes and events.
Once the new sound system is installed, it will enhance the experience of school productions, plays, assemblies, group classes, and religious services for all pupils and parents. Francesca Longbottom, treasurer of the school’s PTFA, emphasized the importance of the donation in ensuring that the efforts of children and teachers in their performances will be fully enjoyed.
Persimmon’s Community Champions scheme offers funding ranging from £1,000 to £6,000 to local charities, schools, and community groups. Successful applicants can apply for this funding to support their initiatives.
