Dramatic rescue: Woman saved from River Ouse by Lendal Bridge in York

Police, firefighters, and paramedics were on the scene near Lendal Bridge around 2.30pm today. The Yorkshire Ambulance Service received a report of a woman in the River Ouse below the bridge. She was rescued and taken to York Hospital. A North Yorkshire Police spokesperson stated that they received reports of a woman entering the River Ouse from Lendal Bridge at 2.35pm. She was in the water for five minutes before being brought to safety by members of the public, ambulance, and fire crews. She was then detained under the Mental Health Act for her own safety and will continue to receive care and support in the hospital.
One witness reported seeing a fire engine parked across Lendal Bridge during the incident, along with several ambulances, police vans, and a fire engine.
