2024 High Street Closures: Argos and Costa Included in Full List

Many major high-street retailers, including Boots, Argos, and Costa, have announced store closures for 2024. This follows a challenging 2023 for the UK high street, with Wilko entering administration and Boots planning to close 300 stores over 12 months. Other retailers such as Argos, Iceland, New Look, and B&M have also closed several outlets across the UK in 2023. The closures taking place in 2024 have been confirmed by the retailers. Boots, for example, revealed last June its plans to close 300 stores in the UK, reducing its portfolio from 2,200 to 1,900 sites. However, the company stated that there would be no proposed redundancies and affected workers would be redeployed. The list of Boots stores closing in 2024 includes locations in Kent, Wigan, Lancashire, Newport, Cornwall, and other areas. Costa Coffee, which closed several sites in 2023, has announced the closure of two more cafes in 2024, one in London and the other in Edinburgh. Additionally, Argos has plans to close several standalone stores in 2024 while expanding its presence in supermarkets. Furthermore, JD Wetherspoon has put several of its UK sites up for sale, with some still on the market and others already closed. Meanwhile, Clinton Cards is taking measures to avoid insolvency, with one store closure set for January 2024 in Haverhill, Suffolk.
